Pricing
Typical installed cost: $8–$16/sq ft (material grade, fasteners, underlayment system, roof complexity, and disposal drive the range).
- Economy builds (~$8–$10/sq ft): #2 grade/shake, standard underlayment, simple geometry.
- Mid-range (~$11–$13/sq ft): #1 grade, stainless fasteners in critical zones, breathable underlayment, valleys/chimneys.
- Premium (~$14–$16/sq ft): hand-split & resawn #1, vented assembly, stainless throughout, intricate hips/ridges, copper flashings.
We’ll measure, spec the assembly, and give you a line-item scope so there’s zero guesswork.
How We Build It
- Assembly: properly gapped shakes, rainscreen/vented underlayment where appropriate, and correct exposure by length & pitch.
- Fasteners: corrosion-appropriate nails; stainless in critical zones; no “through-the-thickness” split nonsense.
- Flashings: sidewalls/valleys/chimneys executed to spec; tidy metals at eaves and rakes.
- Detail photos: we document seams, laps, and transitions so you can see what you paid for.
Pros & Cons
- Iconic, natural look; patinas beautifully.
- Breathable assembly can reduce moisture traps.
- Repairable in sections without visual mismatch (done right).
- Needs correct spacing, exposure, and ventilation to last.
- Maintenance: debris clearing; local fire code considerations.
- Not ideal under heavy overhanging trees without a maintenance plan.
Smart Alternatives (Same Look, Less Upkeep)
- Synthetic “shake” shingles: cedar look with lower maintenance; good for shaded sites.
- Standing seam metal: for long life and clean lines where shake isn’t practical.
- Architectural shingles: budget-friendlier with decent shadow lines.

FAQ
How long does a cedar shake roof last here?
With correct build (exposure, ventilation, fasteners) and debris management, you’re typically looking at 20–30 years depending on tree cover and maintenance.
Do you handle insurance or storm work?
Yes—photo documentation, line-item scopes, and adjuster coordination when appropriate.
Can we mix cedar with low-slope areas?
Absolutely. We frequently pair use PVC/TPO on dead valleys or porch tie-ins.
